Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury is a tragic and sad fact of life, with accidents occurring in every country, to all manner of people, every hour of every day. Once damaged, the spinal cord is currently irreparable, meaning permanent paralysis and a myriad of associated problems. Some higher injuries dictate that the person can't even breathe unassisted. However, it has now been proven in animal models that the spinal cord can be regenerated and this needs to be translated to patients. Funding is currently the biggest roadblock in moving these promising therapies from the lab to human clinical trials.

About Us

Walkoncemore was set up in 2006 to help those injured now and those destined to be injured in the future. After either personal involvement with or interest in spinal cord injury, the founder and trustees wanted to do all that they could. It was obvious that the race was on World-Wide to cure the condition. Contrary to what many injured people are initially told in spinal units, many spinal cord injury researchers believe too in the goal of many to walk again. It is mainly the lack of funding and awareness that is holding back promising treatments, the science itself is almost ready. Walkoncemore was founded on that very fact.

We rely on the generosity of individuals and organisations. Donated goods and services will be entered into our ongoing Ebay auctions.Regardless of where you are in the World you can nominate goods and services for auction. Walkoncemore will request some photographs and details then enter your donated goods/services to be bid upon on the World Wide Web. The proceeds from these 10-day auctions, alongside monetary donations, go into the Walkoncemore fund. Grant applications submitted by research institutions and scientists are then reviewed by the trustees and monies are assigned annually.
